From the Kyoto-based footwear workshop Kikkabou comes an all-black leather sandal (a leather zōri) called Kakukō (革公緒), pronounced “kak-koh.”

The vegetable-tanned black leather is paired with hand-crafted hanao (thong straps) made by a specialist artisan.
In traditional Japanese crafts, production is often highly specialized and divided — for example, in the making of Japanese dolls, there are artisans who create only the faces, and others who work solely on the hair. Likewise, the hanao here are made by a craftsman dedicated exclusively to strap-making.

They are softly padded and gentle against the foot.

The sole features a Vibram outsole, providing reliable grip even on smooth surfaces such as train station floors.
This particular model was selected for its balance of cushioning and abrasion resistance.

Compared to the leather geta that Sunawachi offers each summer in limited quantities, these sandals feel noticeably softer underfoot.

The crisp black finish sharpens the overall impression of your outfit.
While naturally suited to kimono, they also pair effortlessly with jeans, chinos, and other casual wear.

They look especially good styled with pieces by konote — a brand we carry at the Sunawachi Osaka store that remakes vintage kimono into pants and skirts (see the final image for an example).

Please note:

Each pair is made according to your foot size.

If you are between sizes (for example, between 26.0 cm and 26.5 cm), we recommend choosing the smaller size.

  • As each pair is made to order, please allow approximately 1–2 months for delivery.
